Peltor ComTac Upgrade Mic Windsock Covers Military UKSF Airsoft Ear Protection

Do you know what sucks? Having your wind cover prongs for your Peltor ComTacs snap, losing your cover, having the broken piece of the prong rattle around in the mic tube, hearing that interference and then also the wind. After that, if you are lucky enough to have a 3M distributor that’ll ship to your country, you get the privilege of paying far too much for the same flimsy wind cover mount that hasn’t changed in over a decade and will break on you a month down the line.
The original 3M design was perfect for the old MT15 ComTac 1’s where the microphones were recessed into the headset, but as technology and headsets have moved on, these covers are no longer fit for purpose on the newer models where the microphones are more exposed. This is why we see so many breaks and damage to these parts now. Check your ComTacs if you have them handy, even if your wind covers are still on, you might be able to feel through the foam that one of your four prongs is bent or broken, and if it’s broken its either causing a low level rattle in that ear or has jammed itself in the mic canal, limiting audio.
I love the Peltor ComTac series of headsets, but I got sick of having these break (see photo of pile of broken original mounts) and paying an extortionate amount for what was essentially a temporary fix. And so I decided to design and produce upgraded pairs of these Microphone Windsock Covers, significantly reinforced so they actually perform as intended with a good lifespan. These are intended as not just a replacement, but an upgrade, given their excellent track record so far on robustness.
INSTALLATION: to install these you first have to remove the old wind cover and mount (or what is left of them) to do this simple take a flat tool like a flat head screw driver and gently pry from the underside of the cover. The mount and it’s foam should pop off. Then simply line up the Upgrade Microphone Windsock Cover over the rubber microphone nipple and firmly but gentle press directly down, applying even pressure over all 4 of the reinforced prongs you can feel through the foam. The cover should snap into place. Gently twist the cover to ensure it is seated correctly and the foam isn’t caught anywhere. That is instillation complete.
